Saturday: Day 2 -- Bring the Pain

Elaine has asked me to update the blog since she is heavily medicated. Well, the nerve block wore off late last night, and Elaine was experiencing lots of pain. Ever since we left the hospital on Thursday evening, we have been keeping up with her meds (Percocet 5/325 and Ibuprofen 600), and up until late last night, all she was feeling was some mild discomfort and a little bit of tingling. But then she started feeling some pain, gradually at first, and then it intensified with a vengeance. A few times she said it was worse than labor...wow! I held her hand, rubbed her arm, anything to try to comfort her, but she just had to go through it. After a few hours of this intensity, the Percocet took the edge off a little, and then she was able a fall asleep...for about 3 hours and then BOOM, the pain was back. After a few minutes of this, I decided to give her the next dose of meds about 30 mins early. It took a while for the pain to subside but then she was able to go back to sleep a

Friday: 1 day after surgery

It's been about 24 hours since I got home from having my surgery and it has been an adventure but I am finally stable and feeling okay. My surgery was a success and I have a long road to recovery. As you can see, my foot is all bandaged up.  I am not supposed to put any weight on it for 6 - 8 weeks! I decided to write this at the point where my medicine is almost due so that I am more aware of what I'm typing.

Operation time

The family came with us to the hospital, and after we checked Elaine in, we took turns going in the back to be with her.  About an hour before the surgery the anesthesiologist told us he would administer a nerve block numbing agent first on the leg, and then later a general anesthesia before the operation.   She was then wheeled to the back, and I went back to the family area with everyone else.  2 hours later the physician's assistant came out and told us that the operation was a success, and they only needed to do 4 out of the 5 procedures after all. A few hours later, she was discharged, although the nurses forgot to give us the discharge paperwork

I have a cold!

I woke up with a head cold...oh no...I have heard that anesthesiologists don't like putting patients under if they have a cold... I'm nervous my surgery will be postponed of I have a cold.  I am doing zicam,  sudafed, ginger tea,  lots of water and diffuser with eucalyptus.

Surgery in one week

Well, well, Well it's been 7 years since my first ankle injury and in a week I'm headed in for surgery to fixed the problem that was never fixed in the first surgery.  There are going to be 5 procedures: Gastrocnemius Recession Calcaneal Osteotomy -- he is going to break my heel Cotton Osteotomy Spring Ligament Reconstruction FDL Tendon Transfer. Wow...that's a lot.  I am praying for success!!!
